WealthPillar ยท Serving Mississauga business owners
Corporate Life Insurance in Mississauga
If your Mississauga corporation would struggle to pay its bills without you, or without the one person who brings in most of the work, you have a risk that no policy on your house or car covers. Clients may pause. A bank may review the line of credit. A partner may have to buy shares from a family that wants cash, not a stake in a business.
Corporate life insurance is one way to put money where those problems land. WealthPillar helps Mississauga business owners understand the options, what they cost and where they fall short, before anything is bought.
Who we usually help in Mississauga
- Owners of incorporated small and mid-sized businesses who rely on one or two people the company can't easily replace
- Companies with two or more shareholders who need a funded plan for buying each other out
- Incorporated professionals, such as physicians, dentists, consultants and engineers, planning protection inside a professional corporation
- Family businesses in logistics, transportation, manufacturing, wholesale, retail and construction, where the owner's relationships carry the revenue
- Owners with a commercial loan or line of credit that depends on their personal involvement
Four kinds of corporate coverage, in plain terms
Key person insurance
The corporation owns a policy on someone whose loss would hurt revenue or operations, and the corporation is the beneficiary. If that person dies, or with some products suffers a covered critical illness, the money can help replace lost revenue, pay to recruit and train a successor, and steady lenders and clients during the change. The amount should come from a reasoned estimate of the financial impact, never a round number picked in the meeting.
Buy-sell funding
A shareholder agreement usually says what happens to an owner's shares at death. It rarely says where the money comes from. Insurance can fund that purchase, so the surviving owners keep control and the deceased owner's family receives fair value in cash. Drafting the agreement is your lawyer's job. We make sure the insurance matches what the agreement says.
Corporate-owned life insurance
Some owners use a permanent policy owned by the corporation as part of a long-term wealth strategy and estate plan. Whether that suits you depends on your corporation's cash flow, the rest of your planning and your accountant's view. We explain how these policies work, what they cost over time, what can change and the risks involved.
Business loan protection
If the company owes money to a bank, coverage can help repay that debt if a key owner dies, so the business and the family aren't pushed into a quick sale. Some lenders ask for coverage as a condition of the loan. We can review what your lender expects and what you already have.
How a review works
- A first conversation. By phone, by video call or at our Brampton office at 181 Queen Street East. Mississauga is a short drive away, and most reviews can happen virtually.
- A look at the business. Who owns it, who drives revenue, what the company owes and which agreements exist. You don't need to send documents for the first call.
- An estimate of the gap. What the business would need, and for how long, if a key person were gone.
- A side-by-side comparison. Options from insurers with their costs, terms, underwriting steps and limits written down.
- Your decision. Nothing is placed without your sign-off, and you're welcome to take the comparison to your accountant and lawyer first.
Why Mississauga owners talk to WealthPillar
WealthPillar was founded by Chirag Kalra, a Chartered Accountant (ICAI, India) and licensed life insurance advisor in Ontario with more than 12 years in accounting, tax and financial services. That background helps when the conversation turns to how a policy fits your corporation's financial statements, your shareholder agreement or your succession plans. Final tax and legal positions stay with your own accountant and lawyer, and we're glad to work alongside them.
WealthPillar is paid by commission from the insurance company when a policy is placed. Ask us about it, and we'll explain how it works before you decide anything.
Questions Mississauga owners ask
Can my corporation own the policy and pay the premiums?
Yes, a corporation can own a life insurance policy and pay its premiums. How the premiums, the payout and any cash value are taxed depends on the structure and the purpose, so confirm it with your accountant before you decide.
How much key person coverage does a business need?
There is no standard number. Common starting points are the revenue the person brings in, the cost and time to replace them, and the debts the business carries. We work through the calculation with you and show every assumption.
Will I need a medical exam?
Often, depending on the amount and the insurer. Underwriting can take several weeks, so it helps to start well before a deadline such as a loan renewal or a new shareholder agreement.
Do you only work with Brampton businesses?
No. Our office is in Brampton, and we work with business owners across Mississauga, the rest of Peel Region and Ontario, in person or by video call.
